Cleanings

Everyone loves the feeling of smooth clean teeth after a professional dental cleaning. Our goal is to not only have your teeth feel and look great, but also to have your gums be healthy. Each patient receives a periodontal or gum evaluation during their comprehensive exam. During this exam, Dr. Mamo will diagnose any periodontal disease or infection present. We will custom tailor a treatment plan to bring your gums back to health and feeling great.

I use many different modalities to clean and treat gum disease. The most important step is to clean the teeth of tartar buildup and make them smooth. This prevents bacteria from sticking to the teeth as easily. I use a combination of gentle ultrasonic and hand instruments to clean the teeth. Depending on the degree of disease, I may use localized antibiotics, laser treatment, or gum surgery. Each option will be discussed with you in order to reach your goals. Our office also offers many home-care hygiene items for sale to help maintain your smile.

Healthy Mouth Cleaning

Do you brush and floss twice a day? Do you have regular dental visits? If so, you likely have healthy gums. Dr. Mamo recommends a cleaning (Prophylaxis) every six months for most patients with healthy mouths. This procedure is gentle and pain-free. He will use an ultrasonic cleaner and special gentle instruments to have your teeth feeling smooth and fresh. Optimal oral health starts with proper hygiene instructions. Dr. Mamo will demonstrate proper cleaning techniques to help you reach those hard to clean areas.

Periodontal Disease

Has it been a while since your last visit? Do your gums bleed when you floss? Do you have bad breath? Are your teeth loose? If so, you may have periodontal disease. Periodontal disease occurs when the gum tissue gets inflamed and swollen with loss of supporting jaw bone. Bacteria around your teeth and in your gums set up an infection. Over time, your body tries to fight off the infection and results in loss of the socket bone supporting the teeth. This can lead to loose teeth and the eventual need for extraction. Prevention of gum disease is extremely important. If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease, Dr. Mamo will discuss an individualized treatment plan to bring your mouth back to health.
